Year 2018 summary

During 2018 SESC has managed a total of 121 queries. Of these, 13 were solely telematic and the remaining 108 requests corresponded included samples for laboratorial analysis.

During 2018, 23 posts have been published in this blog in Catalan, Spanish and English. Of these, 9 corresponded to diagnostic challenges. We had a total of 104,898 visits, more than double the previous year!

Here is a summary of this year's data. We'd like, once again, to thank the collaboration and effort of the pathologists and animal health experts from IRTA-CReSA, the SDPV and the Veterinary School of the UAB as well as the staff of the Public Health Agency of Catalonia ( ASPCAT), especially to the official veterinary inspectors who with their contributions make possible the success of this page and this service.

Evolution of the number of inquiries received at the SESC. The number has recovered slightly with respect to previous years.

Distribution by species of the queries received at the SESC. The bovine sector, one more year, is the one that provides the most samples, especially for the confirmation of the diagnosis of zoonoses such as tuberculosis and bovine cysticercosis. In the hunting category, the two samples correspond to boar lesions. As in previous years queries from poultry, rabbit and horse slaughterhouses are minimal.

Distribution of the origin of the visits in the SESC blog.

Table 1: Summary of suspicions of mandatory reporting diseases and zoonoses of veterinarians who sent samples and other processes that have been diagnosed.

* This classification includes samples received in which, although the inspector did not suspect TBC, the lesion was considered macroscopically compatible.

** TBC diagnoses correspond to cattle (n = 9, of which 5 were not confirmed by PCR/culture but had compatible lesions), goats (n = 3) and wild boar (n = 2).

*** All cases corresponded to isolated animals with hemorrhagic diathesis lesions compatible with ASF/CSF but that did not elicit a serious suspicion, the infection was discarded by means of molecular diagnosis (PCR) and histopathological study.

Moltes felicitats per la feina que feu!
Possiblement el suport més efectiu que tenim els SVO d’escorxador en tasques d’inspecció ante i post mortem.
