Muscular lipomatosis
This lesion also known as muscular steatosis involves the replacement of muscle fibers by fat cells that come from mesenchymal intramuscular cells.
This lesion can result from chronic muscle damage or muscle denervation. But it is also observed in clinically healthy animals. Although the cause is unknown it is suspected it might be a consequence of muscular lesions due to nerve damage, nutritional myopathy, trauma or ischemia.
