Cervical suppurative-necrotizing myositis in a sow
Histologically adipose and muscle tissue necrosis was observed with presence of foreign material and abundant, predominantly suppurative, inflammatory infiltrate as well as scant bacterial forms. A negative result in Groccott's staining allowed to rule out the presence of fungal forms.
Despite the presence of bacterial forms observed, the microbiological culture of the sample did not allow to isolate the agent responsible for the lesion.
The lesions described are compatbile with a penetrating contaminated wound or with the intramuscular administration of a bacteria-contaminated injectable product.
