Cor villosum in a sow
The lesion, known as cor villosum or shaggy heart, consists in a chronic fibrinous pericarditis. In pigs this lesion is often associated with Glasser's disease (Haemophilus parasuis), although other infectious agents (such as streptococi) can also cause similar lesions. The initial fibrin exudate between the two pericardial sheets undergoes a process of organization with the formation of connective tissue from the pericardium serous membrane.
