Nodular lesions in a horse liver
In a 12 months old, Catalan Pyrenees breed mare multiple nodular lesions were observed in the liver parenchyma.
Histopathological examination revealed granulomatous inflammatory lesions enriched in eosinophils and the presence of parasitic structures compatible with nematode eggs of Calodium hepaticum (Capillaria hepatica).
In the differential diagnosis one should include other nematodes such as Strongylus edentatus or, less frequently, S.equinus and also lesions form cestode parasites such as E.granulosus (hydatid cyst) and migration of Cysticercus tenuicollis (larval stage of Taenia hydatigena).
