Samples of pre-scapular and caudal mediastinal lymph nodes (LN) from a 16-month-old crossbred male calf arrive at SESC. In the pre-scapular LN we do not observe macroscopic or microscopic lesions, but in the caudal mediastinal we do. The inspectors who report the case indicate that there are also lung lesions (although we do not have images) and explain that they are sending samples of the pre-scapular LN because they notice it is hardened and want to rule out that it is a generalized disease to determine the fitness of the carcass. (EV)
On the right, pre-scapular LN without apparent lesions, on the left, caudal mediastinal LN, increased in size and with a caseous appearance, except at one point where there is a focus of a more suppurative appearance.
